Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the lowest part of your rectum. Sometimes the blood vessels stretch so thin and bulge when irritated. They are also a very common cause of rectal bleeding.

Internal hemorrhoids:

This type of hemorrhoid is usually deep inside your rectum that you are unable to see or feel them. They typically don't hurt due to the lack of pain receptors located in that area.

  • Blood in stool
  • Prolapsed tissue in the anal opening

External hemorrhoids:

These types of hemorrhoids are usually under the skin around your anus where they are many nerve receptors. These types of hemorrhoids are usually quite painful and can include bleeding, itching, and swelling.

If you believe you may be experiencing hemorrhoids, call our office to schedule a visit with Dr. Ashwath to explore your treatment options today!
